EntrepreneuHER is the world's largest annual all-female STEM & Entrepreneurship makeathon started as a partnership between 501(c)3 non-profits, GirlTechBoss & FontFemme. EntrepreneuHER was founded with a mission to empower female-identifying & non-binary high school and college students to explore the field of entrepreneurship. This event features keynotes from distinguished female founders, mentorship, and interactive workshops, where attendees will collaborate to develop their own startup ideas.
Over the course of the makeathon, students will form teams and develop their own initiatives. The event will culminate in Pitch Night where students will pitch their solution via video submission and receive feedback from industry experts in the judging process. If you are interested in or currently pursuing entrepreneurship, this is YOUR chance to learn from industry professionals, build your entrepreneurial skill, and grow your network with like-minded students!
WHAT IS A MAKEATHON?
For EntrepreneuHER's exciting lineup of distinguished speakers, esteemed founders and CEOs, panelists, and students from Stanford, Yale, Columbia, and UPenn who are hosting keynotes and workshops in ideation, python & data analysis, branding, prototyping, pitching, iOS development, and more! Last year, we hosted speakers from Apple, Goldman Sachs, TEDx, AT&T, Stanford, UPenn, Columbia, Yale, and more!
Why should I attend EntrepreneuHER?
We encourage all those who identify as female or non-binary and are interested exploring tech and entrepreneurship to participate in the EntrepreneuHER makeathon!
Am I eligible?
YES! Every year, our team members carefully choose prizes that will be awarded to overall top teams and superlative winners in many different categories (every team member receives their own). In past years, we have awarded Airpod Pros, Tory Burch Handbags, HyperX Gear, Instax Printers, EntrepreneuHER merch, and much more!
Are there prizes?
Yes. There is a new theme/challenge that is announced in the opening ceremony of the annual makeathon.
We want to keep the challenge broad enough so that you have the opportunity to explore different areas of the intersection between entrepreneurship and technology. We encourage you to think outside the box, and we commend people who think of very unique ideas that solve a wide range of issues relating to the theme. You may take the challenge in whatever direction you desire, so don't hesitate to try something new!
2020 Challenge: COVID-19
2021 Challenge: Connecting for Social Good
Is there a theme to what we create?
Every year, we invite industry experts in technology and entrepreneurship to judge your pitches.
Who are the judges?
Judges are not looking for a completely polished and fully functional product; instead, they look for innovative ideas and well thought-out plans that solve a problem.
-
Having a fully functional and polished product is definitely a boost to your pitch; however, it is not the main aspect that the judges are looking for when judging.
-
Examples of how you can create a demo without a fully fledged product:
-
Figma wireframe or prototype
-
Website builder (Wix, etc.)
-
Flow chart (The process of how your project would work)
-
Partially coded project (Does not have full functionalities, but demonstrates how it the functionality would be used)
-
Relavent Problem
-
Your project should provide a solution to a problem that IS a real problem
-
Your team should demonstrate how your project can make an impact on your problem
Innovative but Realistic Solution
-
We encourage you to think outside of the box, however, your project must also be realistic so that it would actually function properly in the real-world
-
Address any potential flaws in your project or potential negative impacts that your project may have and propose how they can be prevented or minimized
-
Judges are also looking for innovative or "out-of-the-box" ideas that are unique to the market
Professional Presentation
-
Visuals used in the project and pitch are presented in a professional way that is easy to follow and understand
-
Team members who are speaking in the video should speak clearly and concisely
-
Should use professional language and avoid adding unecessary information
-
Also, try to make your presentation as engaging as possible through video editing, visuals, audio, and/or etc.
-
Judges love videos that are fun, unique, and creative!
-
